Another excursion we went on during our honeymoon was to Chicen Itza and a sink hole in a small town on the way there. It was quite the haul from our resort, but we figured we would never get a chance to see Mayan ruins again, so we might as well!
It was incredible and incredibly HOT. Phew, I haven't been that hot in DC yet this summer. #thankthelordforAC
Below are pics from the sink hole we stopped at on the way there!
I wore a cover up and a swimsuit because they told us we could swim at the sink hole. See the sinkhole below and you will know why I didn't jump in! Too many things could be in that water!
The town we stopped in for lunch was very cute and quaint with a little town square. We stopped to have lunch and to cool down a bit before our long drive to the ruins.
Our tour guides were awesome and we learned so much about Mayan culture and their thoughts and beliefs. Everything was so mathematical and they really beheaded a ton of folks to please the gods for rain. Didn't work since it was Mexico! Oops!
Happy to have been. Happy to not go again! It was just so hot. I would suggest Tulum since the ride isn't as bad from the Riviera Maya area.
HAPPY LABOR DAY! Enjoy this day off of work and maybe hit up some sales!
Below - super tourists. :)
